Holy Spirit GPS - led to a broken heart and a healed man!
I was driving around today after I dropped my mom off at her doctor's appointment. As I was driving I was thinking and asking the Lord to show me someone to pray for. I was practicing looking, listening and was ready to respond! I could feel a desire and passion, but I also had a sense of some wrong thinking - a temptation of pride and performance. Then I heard the Lord speak softly to my heart: "It's not about performance but about demonstrating love." The Lord was teaching my heart and helping me to think right.
It wasn't but a few minutes later that I felt a strong sense to turn and drive down one particular street, so I did. I was excited to find out what God might do. Where was he leading me, or what if it was just wishful thinking? The only way to find out if this was the Lord leading was to drive down the street.
I saw a man at the end of the street and I wondered if he was the reason God had directed me to this street. But then as I got nearer, I could feel it wasn't this man God was leading me to. Then I looked to my left and I saw a man on his bike. He looked very familiar to me, and I realized he was someone I had met at a church years ago. I stopped and waved at him and said, "Hey, it's Brian. Do you remember me?"
"Oh, yes! Hi, Brian." Then with a sad-sounding voice, he shared, "My mom passed away." I could hear the pain and grief in the tone of his voice.
I got out of the car, and we just talked a while. I listened and then I told him how the Lord led me down this street. He felt so encouraged. He needed a friend to listen. It had been years since I had seen Charles, and he has had a rough life but is one of the sweetest, simple, loving, childlike people I have ever meet. I asked him if I could pray for him about the pain of losing his mom, and I also felt like he had some physical issues God wanted to touch.
I asked him if he had any pain in his body, and he said, "Oh, Brian, my back and left side have been in pain for over a year." He said it was a 4 or 5 pain level all the time, and he was in pain right then. So I prayed for Charles. He said he felt a warm feeling come into his back and side, and all the pain just left. He smiled and was so thankful to Jesus.
We talked a bit more, then my mom called and said she needed me to pick her up. It was such as sweet encounter and I was reminded again of not only God's power but his love. It was so awesome to see the Holy Spirit lead me to an old friend who needed some love. Jesus never forgets us and he knows how to encourage and comfort us in dark and painful times.
Risk it when you feel that leading. You never know how God might use you to love on someone.
