Jeanine and I were shopping at the Rink Gallery for some items for the house. As we were walking out, I saw a lady as she walked past me. I thought there was something wrong with the the base of her neck into the base of her lower back. So I said, "Ma'am, are you having problems in your neck and your back?"
"Oh! Excuse me?" she said, a little surprised by my question. After a second to let the unexpected question sink in, she said, "Yes. It's at the base of my neck and also in the base of my lower back." I asked her if she wanted the pain to go away. Not sure what she was being set up for, she cautiously but eagerly said "Of course." I asked what her pain level was on a scale from one to ten, and she said seven. I asked her if she would let me pray for her, and she quickly said yes. I introduced myself, and she said her name was Rachel.
I reached out for her hand, and she eagerly grabbed mine with both of hers. I began to pray, "Holy Spirit, come. Touch Rachel's neck and back. I command all this pain to leave now in Jesus' name for the glory of Christ and your great love for Rachel." As I prayed, I could sense God's presence on her as she swayed a little and looked off balance. I asked what she felt, and she said she felt really good. I asked her what the pain level was again, and it was now a three. So I asked if I could pray again. The second time I prayed, she started fanning herself. I asked about the pain, and she said it was totally gone. "What did you feel as I was praying for you?"
"I felt like a big heat flash, and now I feel really great!" She gave me a hug, and we went our separate ways.
Remember that the kingdom of God is at hand even when you're shopping with your wife. Our job is simply to look, listen, and respond to Jesus' activity around us and put him on display.
